BanTransFats.com, Inc. is a California non-profit corporation. Our goal is the reduction and elimination of partially hydrogenated oils from all food products.

STEPHEN L. JOSEPH is the founder, President and CEO of BanTransFats.com, and represents the organization as its attorney. He has been practicing law since 1980. He is a member of the California and District of Columbia Bars. He was a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. for several years and is credited with the passage of at least two bills and a tax credit into law, overcoming the threat of Presidential vetoes. He testified in Congress on aviation and energy issues. Later, he became a litigator handling business, aviation, personal injury, and criminal cases.

In a landmark case against ITT, he obtained a 7-0 decision in his client’s favor in the California Supreme Court.

His lawsuit against the City and County of San Francisco and the political alliances that he formed with the Mayor's Office and Supervisor Peskin resulted in the formation of the highly effective Green Patrol.

He was responsbile for the filing of the Oreo case and the filing and successful settlement of the McDonald's case.

Consultant

Dr. Mary Enig, who is widely regarded as the world's leading expert on the danger of trans fats, is our principal consultant.

MARY G. ENIG, Ph.D. is a nutritionist/biochemist of international renown for her research on the nutritional aspects of fats and oils, is a consultant, clinician, and the Director of the Nutritional Sciences Division of Enig Associates, Inc., Silver Spring, Maryland. Dr. Enig, a consultant on nutrition to individuals, industry, and state and federal governments, is a licensed practitioner in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She has served as a Contributing Editor of the scientific journal Clinical Nutrition and a Consulting Editor of the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Enig has authored numerous journal publications, mainly on fats and oils research and nutrient/drug interactions, and is a well-known invited lecturer at scientific meetings and a popular interviewee on TV and radio shows about nutrition. She was an early and articulate critic of the use of trans fatty acids and advocated their inclusion in nutritional labeling; the scientific mainstream is now challenging the food product industry's use of trans-containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. She received her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is a Fellow of The American College of Nutrition, a member of The American Society for Nutritional Sciences, and President of the Maryland Nutritionists Association.

Dr. Enig is the author of "Know Your Fats: The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils, and Cholesterol."
